Roast Types: Espresso vs Filter vs All Rounder

Espresso Roast:

Our speciality roasted coffee is created for purpose, based on the style of brewing you are most familiar with, or use day to day. In this case, our roast is purposely crafted for espresso brewing.

Whats the big difference? Well, our espresso roasts are typically roasted for a longer period of time, at a higher temperature which makes the grind easier to dissolve in less amounts of water as the grinds are more soluble. Perfect for a 1:2 espresso brew.

The higher roast temperature and longer roast times also allow the extraction to push past the sourness of under extraction and produce a more balanced, sweet espresso.

If you are loving the sound of this roast, but prefer a filter brew method of coffee extraction then fear not! Our espresso roasts can still produce a delicious filter brew, grab a sample and try if for yourself!

Filter Roast:

Our speciality roasted coffee is created for purpose, based on the style of brewing you are most familiar with, or use day to day. In this case, our roast is purposely crafted for filter brewing methods.

Whats the big difference? Well, our filter roasts are typically roasted at lower temperatures for a shorter period of time producing an extremely clear picture of the roasts flavour profiles without being interrupted by the interfering “roast” flavour.

The end result is a far sweeter brew, most of the time not even requiring you to add sugar if you typically sweeten your coffee. The brew ends up being a clear, crisp and delightful way to really taste the flavour notes of each roast.

You can use our filter roasts in any filter brewing method including Chemex, V60, drip filter machines, french presses etc. but we do not recommend them for espresso brewing, stove top brewing or aeropress brewing as they tend to produce a much more sour cup of coffee this way.

All Rounder Roast:

Our speciality roasted coffee is created for purpose, based on the style of brewing you are most familiar with, or use day to day. However, In this case our roast is purposely crafted as an “all rounder” which can be used for any brew method you prefer!

Whats the big difference? Well, our espresso roasts are typically roasted for a longer period of time, at a higher temperature which makes the grind easier to dissolve in less amounts of water as the grinds are more soluble. Perfect for a 1:2 espresso brew.

filter roasts are typically roasted at lower temperatures for a shorter period of time producing an extremely clear picture of the roasts flavour profiles without being interrupted by the interfering “roast” flavour.

In this case, our all rounders sit somewhere in the middle (but closer to an espresso roast), we’ve been able to roast out the sourness an espresso roast typically has when filter brewed, yet been able to retain the sweetness and cut out the acidity when espresso brewing! Magic, we know!

If you are unsure, grab a sample, or a few samples! Each roast have their own unique blend of flavours and samples are the best way for you to find your perfect roast.
